Some tips to surviving winter without insurance claims:

Clean your chimney before your first cozy fire.

Rake your roof when the snow starts to pile up.

If leaving for the winter and turning heat off, drain your pipes.  If leaving for the winter and leaving your heat on, turn off your water.  If there is a leak or burst pipe your water won't keep running.
